and IF...Tiger keeps learnin and Improvin it won't be long I'll be a Tiger guy....
I love everything about Hogans swing with the exception of his lower body....Hogan never slid!...wrongo...try up to 10-12 inches ...that's why he probably preached "clearing his hips"....
The only players who actually DID what they preached were ...
ahhh... this illustrates perfectly to me how the rear hand grip effects the ability of the right forearm to be precisely on plane. I often wondered how people could have the rear forearm in line with the shaft, without having the grip in the right palm/lifeline. At least for most of these guys, I see that the result is an "almost in line" alignment. Cool
So it is easier to get the right forearm on plane with a strong right hand grip... like Couples and O'Grady? Both these guys use something like a 10-2-F I believe. Hogan, of course, had more of a 10-2-B, and had his forearm on plane also.
How is the Impact of someone like Johnny Miller, or Pavin... who uses a weak right hand grip?
The right hand 'cup' and the left hand thumb position with a 'gap' is the only way to really have both wedges properly 'on' plane and still use BOTH wedges to fully support impact.
Anything else and you are giving up some power and/or alignments.
Moe's grip was far better than most will recognize in this regard.
For a setup drill that will help you set the wedges:
Right hand only chip shots will also help show you that the grip is not so much 'in the fingers' as 'at the base' - indeed a stronger right hand (and probably weaker left hand) than most are used to.
